From a consumer-electronics standpoint, 2004 marked the reemergence of the video-game industry as a major economic force, the beginnings of the commoditization of the PC market, and the further spread of pervasive wireless technologies into every facet of our lives. As consumers, we can now choose from a bewildering array of digital devices, services, and technologies, all of which seek to bring us to the exalted state of nerdvana.
