Palm Responds to the iPhone

Or, put another way, "The New York Times prints an unintentionally funny headline." You might be fooled into thinking that Palm Inc. is on the verge of releasing some sort of "iPhone Killer" (hey, did I invent a moniker?) or at least "iPhone alternative." You'd be wrong. They're pretty much just thinking about it:
Palm Inc., the maker of hand-held computers, has hired a top Silicon Valley software designer as it seeks to respond to the challenge posed by Appleā€™s new iPhone.

Although Palm pioneered the market for hand-held computers, the company has found itself under pressure in recent years by some of the most powerful names in consumer electronics, including Sony Ericsson, Motorola, Nokia and Microsoft.
To put this in perspective. Apple announced its iPhone in January. At that time, Palm Inc. decided maybe it better start thinking about something similar. Oh yeah, they're in the game.
